Weiss Lake & Little River Canyon

Lake Weiss is a 30,000 acre hydro electric impoundment on the Coosa River, Chattooga and Little River. Owned by Alabama Power Co., the lake has 447 miles of shoreline with deep channels, large coves, drop offs and shallow flats. Weiss Lake is referred to as "The Crappie Capital of the World" and has a reputation for producing 2 pound + crappie. The best seasons for crappie are March, April, May with September, October and November also being good. Weiss Lake also offers great bass fishing with the best months being, February through May and October and November.

Marinas, boat rentals, guide services, bait shops, campgrounds and motels are available at various locations on the lake.

Little River which flows into Lake Weiss winds through one of the deepest gorges east of the Mississippi River. The canyon plunges 700' down at its deepest drop and is more than 18 miles long. The Little River Canyon National Preserve was recently created by the U.S. Department of Interior, to preserve this beautiful landscape.

Little River flows across Lookout Mountain and Cherokee and DeKalb counties in Alabama. It is a popular river for canoeing and kayaking and many real estate developments have sprung up along the Little River.
